Major

67 Credits

This program incorporates extensive studies in Pharmacology with a strong component of related biomedical sciences, providing a solid preparation for employment opportunities or for entry into graduate or professional training programs. Students must consult the Student Affairs Coordinator (undergradstudies.pharmacology@mcgill.ca) upon entering the program and every year thereafter to verify courses and progress.

Honours

76 Credits

The U1 and U2 courses for the Honours program are identical to those in the Major program. Students who have satisfactorily completed the first three terms of the major program with a CGPA of at least 3.50 and a mark of B+ or higher in core Pharmacology courses are eligible for admission into the Honours program. In addition to completion of the requirements of the Major program, students in the Honours program are required to take a 6-credit Research Projects in Pharmacology course and an additional 3 credit course chosen from the list of advanced level complementary courses. Students apply in the Winter semester of their U2 year.

As an Honours student you are required to carry out an independent research project in Pharmacology (PHAR 598) under the supervision of a faculty member. Please explain your interest in research using as a specific example a research area under investigation by a lab associated with the Department. If you have previously worked in a research lab, please tell us about the experience (where, when, what) and explain why this fostered your interest in research.

Minor

24 Credits

The Minor in Pharmacology is intended for students registered in a complementary B.Sc. program who are interested in a focused introduction to specialized topics in pharmacology to prepare them for professional schools, graduate education, or entry into jobs in industry or research institutes. Students should declare their intent to enter the Minor in Pharmacology at the beginning of their U2 year. They must consult with, and obtain the approval of, the Coordinator for the Minor Program in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics. Please contact the Student Affairs Coordinator (undergradstudies.pharmacology@mcgill.ca).

Generally, no more than 6 credits of overlap are permitted between the Minor and the primary program.

B.Sc Foundation Program (U0)

30 Credits

Formerly known as the "Freshman Program", the B.Sc program is completed by students who need 97–120 credits (four years) to complete their degree requirements. They must consult an adviser in the Science Office for Undergraduate Student Advising (SOUSA) to obtain advice and approval of their course selection. All information can be found here but is also briefly summarized below.

General Math and Science Breadth

Six of the Freshman/Foundation Year courses to satisfy one of the following:

Option 1: 2 courses from MATH and 4 courses from BIOL, CHEM or PHYS; or Option 2: 3 courses from MATH and 3 courses from BIOL, CHEM or PHYS.

Science Complementary

The seventh course is chosen from the list of Approved Freshman/Foundation Year Science Courses.

Students who have completed the Diploma of College Studies, Advanced Placement exams, Advanced Levels, the International Baccalaureate, the French Baccalaureate, or McGill placement examinations may receive exemption and/or credit for all or part of the basic science courses in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics. Similarly, students who have completed courses at other universities or colleges may receive exemptions and/or credits. Consult mcgill.ca/transfercredit/prospective for more information.

Honours (Spécialisation)

76 Crédits

Les cours de première et deuxième année (U1 et U2) du programme Honours sont identiques à ceux du programme de Majeure. Les étudiants ayant réussi les trois premiers trimestres du programme de Majeure avec une moyenne cumulative (CGPA) d'au moins 3,50 et une note de B+ ou plus dans les cours obligatoires de pharmacologie sont admissibles au programme Honours. En plus de satisfaire aux exigences du programme de Majeure, les étudiants du programme Honours doivent suivre un cours de 6 crédits intitulé « Projets de recherche en pharmacologie » et un cours supplémentaire de 3 crédits à choisir parmi la liste des cours complémentaires de niveau avancé. Les demandes d'admission se font au semestre d'hiver de la deuxième année (U2).

En tant qu'étudiant.e en Honours, vous devez réaliser un projet de recherche indépendant en pharmacologie (PHAR 598) sous la supervision d'un professeur de la faculté. Veuillez expliquer votre intérêt pour la recherche en prenant pour exemple un domaine de recherche exploré par un laboratoire associé au département. Si vous avez déjà travaillé dans un laboratoire de recherche, veuillez décrire votre expérience (lieu, dates, nature des tâches) et expliquer en quoi elle a renforcé votre intérêt pour la recherche.

Mineure

24 Crédits

La Mineure en pharmacologie s'adresse aux étudiants inscrits à un programme de baccalauréat en sciences complémentaire qui souhaitent une introduction ciblée à des sujets spécialisés en pharmacologie afin de se préparer aux études professionnelles, aux études supérieures ou à l'entrée sur le marché du travail dans l'industrie ou les instituts de recherche. Les étudiants doivent déclarer leur intention de s'inscrire à la Mineure en pharmacologie au début de leur deuxième année de baccalauréat (U2). Ils doivent consulter la coordinatrice du programme de Mineure au Département de Pharmacologie et de Thérapeutique et obtenir son approbation. Veuillez communiquer avec la coordinatrice des affaires étudiantes (undergradstudies.pharmacology@mcgill.ca).

En règle générale, un maximum de 6 crédits communs entre la Mineure et le programme principal est permis.
